About

The Northern Long Eared Bat is found in some parts of Newfoundland, and is currently listed as endangered since their population has decreased by over 99%. Their main threat is white nose syndrome, a white and fuzzy fungus that grows on their little noses and makes it tough for them to hibernate and stay healthy.

Unlike other bats, they eat moths directly from surfaces rather than catching them mid flight. Their chirps are much less detectable by their prey than other bats.

You can help with their populations by installing bat boxes on your property!

Want to participate?

Creating artwork is fun, and helps us to learn and connect with other people!

Participating in AOTM is easy:

1. Be creative! Make anything inspired by this month's animal.
"Bad Artwork" doesn't exist, anything from stick figures to scribbles is encouraged!

2. Upload your artwork using the email in the button, let me know if you're comfortable with me sharing it :)

That's it! Hopefully you enjoyed making something... even if you don't want it shared, you made something super cool!

Help choose next month's animal!

What is Animal of the Month?

Animal of the Month was started as a way to share and celebrate 2 of my favourite things: animals and art!

Sadly, both of these things are under threat:

Habitat loss, misuse of natural resources, and global warming mean many animals we may not even know about are endangered or even facing extinction.

AI image generation means many creative people lose opportunities to create, it even is trained on the hard work of artists without their permission.

AOTM is a way to learn about and protect new animals, and share the hard work of creative people... that includes you!
