About
The Pit Viper lives in Indonesia, and is widely known for 2 distinct reasons.
First, it comes in a variety of neon, vibrant colours including blue, green and even some shades of yellow! The blue variant we're celebrating this month is unique to Komodo Island, while the yellow variant is unique to Bali.
The second reason its widely known is for its aggression, it's responsible for the majority of venomous bites in the city streets it sometimes calls home.
It makes good use of its heat sensing organ between its eyes and nose as a set of thermal goggles to "see" its prey, then waits in ambush for them. It's venom paralyzes prey from the inside out, making quick work of them!
They have a rough texture if you're brave enough to touch them due to their keeled sclaes. This helps with glae reduction, water resistance, and traction!
